Iaido

Welcome

Cambridge Budokai will open its doors to the members of the public on the 24th September 2024.

Cambridge Budokai is a dojo that teaches the Japanese martial arts of Aikido (合氣道) and Shinkage-ryu Iaijutsu Yamamoto-ha (神影流 居合術 山本派).

We are part of the Aikido for Daily Life association, a member of British Aikido Board.

We are a friendly club and we take a great deal of care to ensure that it is a safe place to train.

We are committed to the inclusion and support of all members regardless of race, sex, age, disability, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, religion or belief, political affiliations and socioeconomic status.

We support diversity in our membership by:

  • Encouraging awareness of appropriate, welcoming language.

  • Encouraging positive connection through our practice.

  •  Whenever possible, making it possible for students who have financial difficulties to practice by either reducing or waiving fees altogether.

The focus of the club is to show how the principles within aikido can be applied to daily life to improve life generally.

In aikido, you bring your true self to the mat, whatever your background, and in order to make progress, you have to acknowledge and accept who you are and then seek to change the bits that get in the way of positive progress.  It is a transformational process that helps students fulfill their true potential.

Shinkage-ryu Iaijustu Yamamoto-ha emphasises correct manners and etiquette in everything you do, from training to business and even social gatherings. Our training stays faithful to the practices of our parent school in Japan, which fosters better patience, perseverance, resilience, mindfulness and staying calm under stress.
